I have a specialisation in petroleum engineering, such as FEM modelling, mechanical engineering and flow simulation in porous medium. It is fascinating how different fracture models can work over different industries. A seam in a reservoir rock can contribute to far higher production rate while a seam can fail your teeth in odontology. The nature of the problems are totally different: the other to maximise production while the other to cut costs of clinical procedures. Yet the underlying concepts about mechanical factors, such as of ceramics, can have some similarities, such as stress tensors.
